How to Use This Tool
First, select the Solve For mode at the top of the data table:
Then complete the data entry for your chosen mode:
The Safety Factor is calculated and displayed in both modes.
Use + Add Row to evaluate multiple configurations simultaneously. Switching solve mode clears the Cv / Time fields but retains all other entries.
Notes
• Typical NAMUR mount solenoids flow approximately 0.75 Cv.
• Body-Ported solenoids can provide much higher Cv ratings.
• When selecting solenoids with high Cv ratings, ensure the selected actuator is capable of flowing the required Cv through its air ports. Click "Reference Tables" to see standard Max Cv ratings by actuator group.
• For fast stroke requirements that cannot be accommodated within this utility, other options exist — including Kinetrol Fast Blocks and custom port sizes. Contact Kinetrol for assistance.
• SR Actuator Models: Spring Return actuators use pressure-specific variant part numbers. The model dropdown shows only variants valid at the selected supply pressure. If you change the pressure, the model selection will reset.
• SR Avg. Torque (SSE vs. Actuator Selector): This tool uses the average spring torque through the stroke — (Spring Start + Spring Finish) ÷ 2 — for speed estimation. The Kinetrol Actuator Selector uses Spring Finish (minimum) torque as a conservative sizing basis. The Avg. Torque Available shown here will therefore be higher than the value used for actuator selection. This is intentional and correct for each tool’s purpose.
